Oak Park Woods

The north 17 acres of David H. Shepherd Park in the City of Oak Park will become Oak Park Woods at Shepherd Park with improvements funded by the Oakland County Parks Healthy Communities Park and Outdoor Recreation Investment Plan. The anticipated investment of $7.96M includes $2.5M from the American Recovery Plan Act and $5.46M from Oakland County Parks’ capital improvement fund. Renovation will include pavilion and warming kitchen updates, a new restroom building, gathering and seating areas and an exciting new play area. The park closed in mid-April 2025 for construction. This portion of Shepherd Park is anticipated to reopen sometime in 2026.

On June 22, 2026, members of Oakland County Parks and the Oakland County Board of Commissioners met up with local officials and members of the community at the completed Oak Park Woods at Shepherd Park to celebrate its grand opening.
