Molly C.•4 months ago I would like to propose several improvements to enhance the BMX track and surrounding area to better serve families, youth, and the broader community.First, adding a pump track and a skatepark would create dynamic recreational opportunities for riders of all ages and skill levels. Pump tracks can safely introduce young riders to bike handling skills while also providing an engaging space for teens and adults. A well-designed skatepark similarly offers a dedicated area for skateboards, scooters, and BMX riders, reducing conflicts with other park users and promoting active, healthy lifestyles.I would also strongly encourage updating and expanding the existing BMX track facilities. Thoughtful infrastructure supports not only riders but also the volunteers and families who make these programs successful. The individuals managing and utilizing the track should have adequate, functional space to operate efficiently and safely.Improvements could include:*Improved storage for bicycles, gear, track maintenance tools, and supplies*Updated space for concessions and merchandise*Updated restrooms*Enhanced accessibility of the track and adjacent areas to better accommodate individuals using mobility devices.Providing this type of infrastructure ensures the track can be properly maintained, events can be run smoothly, and families can comfortably spend time at the track. In addition, shade structures should be incorporated into any new design or park update. Whether at the pump track, skatepark, BMX track, playgrounds, spectator areas, or gathering spaces, shaded areas are essential for safety, comfort, and usability. Shade extends the amount of time families can responsibly use the park, reduces heat-related health risks, protects equipment, and makes events more sustainable and enjoyable for participants and spectators alike. Shade should not be an afterthought, but a foundational design element throughout the park.Lastly, any updates or additions should preserve the spirit of public parks as open, accessible community spaces. Public parks are funded by the community and should remain broadly accessible to the community. The county should focus on strengthening and improving what already serves residents—inclusive features like a pump track and skatepark, and upgrading the BMX track infrastructure so it can thrive.
